Understanding the heart of SRA’s approach to recovery
At SRA Ltd, we don’t just offer services, we create environments where people feel safe, respected, and empowered. That’s the essence of trauma-informed support.
What is Trauma-Informed Support?
Trauma-informed practice recognises that many people have experienced adversity, whether through abuse, neglect, loss, or systemic disadvantage. These experiences can shape how someone engages with services, relationships, and recovery.
Instead of asking “What’s wrong with you?”, trauma-informed support asks: “What’s happened to you?” and “What do you need to feel safe and supported?”
Our Principles in Action
At SRA, trauma-informed support means:
Safety – We create spaces where people feel physically and emotionally secure
Trust – We’re transparent, consistent, and respectful in every interaction
Choice – Trainees are supported to make decisions and set their own goals
Collaboration – We value lived experience and co-design services with our community
Empowerment – We build on strengths, not deficits
Cultural Sensitivity – We respect diverse identities and backgrounds
How It Shapes Our Programme
Whether someone is working in the Copyshop, learning IT skills, or joining our catering team, trauma-informed support is woven into every part of the experience. Staff are trained to respond with empathy, flexibility, and clarity. Service Users are encouraged to progress at their own pace, with no pressure to “perform” or meet rigid benchmarks.
Why It Matters
Recovery isn’t linear. Trauma-informed support helps people rebuild trust, develop confidence, and take meaningful steps forward—whether toward education, employment, or simply feeling more connected.
